House Plans: The Den

Ready for some more house plans!?

Well, we have a room that connects our kitchen to the garage. It kinda seems like it used to be a breezeway, and somewhere along the lines, someone turned it into a room. It's rather spacious, and has a wall of glass sliders that lead out to the deck and back yard. The previous owners used the space as a TV room/den, and we are planning on following suit.

This is the room that had the discolored wallpaper on the walls. Well, we tore that down only to find some more layers or paper on top of wood paneling with caulking in between the panels. We had been thinking about painting the room before we made this discovery, but now, in order to paint, we have to get rid of the paneling and put down some wall board...and then paint! So what did we decide to do instead? Find some more wallpaper!

We are going for a "natural" feel in this room. It gets a lot of light and leads to the yard, so we wanted something comfortable and not overdone, kind of like a soothing lounge space. We found some grasscloth wallpaper in a very light sage tint that will hopefully do the trick. These are some examples of the grasscloth wallpaper, just not in the color we chose. It has a really nice "linen-like" texture.

The floors are a tan colored ceramic tile, and we purchased a jute rug to go in the middle of the room.

And for furniture. We wanted a comfy couch, as we'll have a small TV on the wall for lounging. We found these at a local furniture store. They have been sitting in the den covered in plastic since we moved in, because we just decided on the wallpaper last week and are waiting for it to be delivered! It's hard to see, but they are an oatmeal color...cream with gray specks. They are so comfortable!

We decided on this bench instead of a coffee table, but the fabric will be the one below.

{Sorry for the crappy phone pic!}

The pillows on the couch are the ones that came with furniture, but we decided on some different covers that will compliment the bench and color scheme a little better.

So that's what we've got for now. We will have a little chest/shelves below where the TV is hanging on the wall, a side table, and some plants and accessories. Can't wait to see this room actually come together, I think it will be a really relaxing space. What do you guys think?

your posts fully entertain me...I literally drag the pics from your blog and put them into my "home inspiration" folder on my computer.

When we move back to the states and have a real house all decorated, I will have to have you over since you basically are designing my home. :)

xx

I can only agree with all the comments! But, as you were asking what we thought - be careful not to put too much neutral in the room. I think you should really go for pillows with a bit of colour in them. Can't wait to see the finished room!
